Muddy Creek Charter School

A Place-based Elementary Education in Corvallis, Oregon

Muddy Creek Charter School was established in 2008 to serve rural communities south of Corvallis. Its use of place-based education integrates the connection to our surroundings, community partnerships, and hands-on project learning activities to serve Kindergarten through 5th-grade students from Corvallis and beyond. Here are some fun facts about Muddy Creek:

• We are a public school – it costs $0 to attend here, though we are a charter and that means we receive less money from the state. We ask our parents to help bridge that funding gap.
• We have a place-based/project-based mission which means that in addition to normal standards-based classroom learning opportunities, our students spend 1-2 hours a day working on projects that are authentic and experiential in nature.
• We are outdoor and nature enthusiasts! We are outside A LOT – including rainy days – interacting with and learning about our environment.

2025-26 School Year Lottery

Interested in joining the Muskrat Crew next year? We are a public school, but we have limited space so we select new students via a weighted lottery. We select up to 23 students per class from the list of interested families and give weighted preference to students with currently enrolled students, and students who reside within the Corvallis School District geographic boundaries. The school year has already started, but we are still accepting new student registrations for our 2024/25 school year! Most classes have a couple spots left, and we are also taking applications for waiting lists. Please complete this Enrollment Interest Form and/or contact our office manager to schedule a tour if you’d like to join the Muddy Creek community.
