Muddy Creek Charter School
A Place-based Elementary Education in Corvallis, Oregon
Muddy Creek Charter School was established in 2008 to serve rural communities south of Corvallis. Its use of place-based education integrates the connection to our surroundings, community partnerships, and hands-on project learning activities to serve Kindergarten through 5th-grade students from Corvallis and beyond. Here are some fun facts about Muddy Creek:
- We are a public school – it costs $0 to attend here, though we are a charter and that means we receive less money from the state. We ask our parents to help bridge that funding gap.
- We have a place-based/project-based mission which means that in addition to normal standards-based classroom learning opportunities, our students spend 1-2 hours a day working on projects that are authentic and experiential in nature.
- We are outdoor and nature enthusiasts! We are outside A LOT – including rainy days – interacting with and learning about our environment.
