Student Services
At Muddy Creek all students are welcome and all students belong. We strive to create an environment that celebrates student diversity and supports all levels of student learning. Support for these children includes a range of services, from general classroom supports to specialized plans for students with unique needs. As a public school we have a responsibility to identify, locate, and evaluate any student who needs special education. This is called “Child Find.” Looking for and finding these students is an important first step toward getting them the help they need to thrive in school. Our teachers and staff routinely observe and assess student progress to ensure that any needs are identified early, working together with parents from the start.
Student Support Team (SST)
When students struggle at school (physically, emotionally, academically, or behaviorally) we follow our SST Referral Process in order to help them receive the supports they require to be successful. Parents or Teachers can refer a student to the SST for consideration. Our SST team meets weekly to review student data, evaluate appropriate interventions, and/or make referrals to available support services. Special Education (IEPs)
As a sponsored charter within the Corvallis School District all of our special education services are provided by CSD. They are responsible for providing a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and upholding the Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA) at Muddy Creek. CSD provides Muddy Creek with on-site special education staff, speech language pathologists (virtual), and other specialists to support the identification and support of special education students. Please visit their website for additional information. Corvallis SD Special Education, Coordinator: lindsay.prothero@corvallis.k12.or.us
504 Plans at Muddy Creek
Muddy Creek provides 504 Plans for students with disabilities who need accommodations to access learning alongside their peers. These plans may include supports like modified classroom environments, instructional adjustments, or testing accommodations. The process begins with a referral—often initiated by a parent, teacher, or staff member—and involves a review by our Student Support Team, which considers input from families, teachers, and relevant medical information. For questions or to begin the referral process, contact our 504 Coordinator at jill.hein@muddycreekcharterschool.org.
